Game of Thrones actress Rose Leslie has opened up about her co-star turned husband Kit Harington's sobriety journey.

Last year, Harington spoke candidly about his previous addiction to substances including alcohol, and now his wife has spoken about how he is in a better place.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar, Leslie talked about her partner's recovery while noting that it's still something he has to think about and take responsibility for.

"For Kit, being an addict, it's very important for him to recognise himself as such," she said.

"The AA [Alcoholics Anonymous] community has provided such a loving space for him to feel heard, to make sure he's not alone. But if it weren't for rehab, he would be in a very different headspace right now.

"I've learnt a lot about addiction and it's something Kit is forever going to be aware of, but it's on him whether he chooses to drink again. No amount of nannying is going to be able to stop him from doing what he decides to do.

"I don't choose to put that pressure on myself. The responsibility of his behaviour is on him. It's not on me to guard him from it."

Following her recent appearance in Death on the Nile, Leslie will soon return to the small screen in HBO's adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife, written by Steven Moffat of Doctor Who fame, and directed by occasional Thrones helmer David Nutter. Recently, it was given a release date (in America, at least).
