Rose McGowan responds after Charmed reboot star accused her of ‘putting down’ women of colour

Rose McGowan has responded after Sarah Jeffrey, the star of CW’s Charmed reboot, said she was “putting down” women of colour.

Jeffrey made the remark after McGowan and fellow actor Holly Marie Combs criticised her series in a video posted to Instagram.

In response, Jeffrey tweeted: “I truly hope they find happiness elsewhere, and not in the form of putting down other WOC [women of colour]. I would be embarrassed to behave this way.”

McGowan has since responded to Jeffrey in an Instagram post, which reads: “Dear Sarah Jeffery, I honestly had no idea who you were til you tweeted. I have been too busy fighting monsters and fighting for a massive Cultural Reset to notice who's in the reboot.

“Absolutely nothing to do with race, that's quite a stretch you took. I'm beyond glad any WOC has a well paying job. Hell yes to that. I'm sure you are a great actress.”

The actor continued to explain why she took issue with the reboot of her 1998 series: “My quibble (Google it) is about execs and producers and @wb network trading on years of my work and name in such a cynical and obvious way."

She called the new remake “a money grab to cash in on the Charmed name” and said: “I do not care that they remade it, I have far bigger things I'm dealing with. I do not nor will I watch a show I disagree with on principle.”

Combs – who starred alongside McGowan in the original series with Alyssa Milano – also responded to Jeffrey’s comments, calling them “bulls***” in a tweet.

She added : “People speaking, excuse me typing, derogatory accusations of a person’s character despite evidence to the contrary because of a difference in opinions about a TV show is just plain wrong.”

The original Charmed series aired on WB from 1998 to 2006. The reboot, which also features Madeleine Mantock and Melonie Diaz, began in 2018.
