Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson and more celebrity couples you forgot were married

You might be aware of the most famous celebrity couples of the moment, but do you remember when Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere were young and in love?

Before Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, there was Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. Before Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk, there was Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito. Those couples might be divorced now, but there are also plenty of celebrity pairs who are still very much married.

Reynolds and Johansson started dating in the spring of 2007, although they never officially confirmed it. Since social media wasn’t a societal staple at the time, they were able to keep their relationship under wraps until Johansson’s rep confirmed they were engaged on May 5, 2008.

Just four months later, the pair quietly wed in a remote retreat near Vancouver, B.C. By early 2010, they were spending less and less time together because of their separate projects, to the point where they weren’t even living together. They continued to push through the hardships until December 14, 2010, when they called it quits after just over two years of marriage.

As for Cooper and Esposito, rumors started circulating that they were dating in early 2006, and by October of that same year, People confirmed they were engaged.

The low-key couple was married in December 2006 in the South of France, but four months later Esposito filed for a divorce. In Esposito’s book, Jennifer’s Way: My Journey with Celiac Disease — What Doctors Don’t Tell You and How You Can Learn to Live Again, she mentioned that one of her exes was a “master manipulator.”

While she never confirmed that she was talking about Cooper, speculation that the marriage didn’t end on good terms was abundant. Even now, 12 years after the divorce, it still seems there is tension between the two. On David Spade’s Instagram photo of Lady Gaga and Cooper getting uncomfortably close during their “Shallow” performance at the 2019 Oscars, captioned “Is there any chance these two aren’t f******?” Esposito commented with a telling “ha.”

Additionally, Jennifer Lopez has been married not once, not twice, but three times, and is now engaged to be married a fourth. Sandra Oh notoriously keeps her personal life fairly private but was married once before to screenwriter Alexander Payne. And before she was divorced from Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner was married to a different sitcom actor, Scott Foley. In fact, the list of forgotten celebrity marriages is surprisingly long.
