The new trailer for You season 2 has confirmed the return of a main character from the first season.

Released on Monday (December 16), the trailer opens with serial killer Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) reminiscing about his relationship with Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) in a clear flashback sequence, as Beck was murdered by Joe at the end of season 1.

But then the trailer moves on to reveal Joe has headed to Los Angeles in a bid to escape his life in New York and is masquerading as a man named Will Bettelheim.

Fresh out of an intense relationship that ended in murder, Joe soon meets a new love interest called Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) in LA – but his fresh start is threatened when his former girlfriend Candace (Ambyr Childers) follows him across the country after therapist Dr Nicky (John Stamos) went down for Beck's murder.

"If he loves you," Candace warns in the new trailer. "That's the most dangerous thing."

Interestingly, Gotham actor Robin Lord Taylor has actually joined You season 2 as another character named Will. So, is this the same Will that Joe's pretending to be?

Speaking about his character previously, Robin told Entertainment Tonight: "He's incredibly good at reading people. He has an intuitiveness and empathy about him that I think he uses very effectively."

Eek.

Meanwhile, You showrunner Sera Gamble previously admitted that season 2 will be "gorier and scarier" than the debut season.

"Joe is always trying to be a good guy but yet somehow he's finding himself in these thriller, horror kind of situations. It's terrible for him but I think it's going to be so much fun for the audience," she explained.

You season 2 lands on Netflix on December 26.
