Serial suitcase thief caught after travelling the world stealing holidaymakers' luggage

A serial suitcase thief who travelled the world stealing baggage was finally caught this week.

Patrick Coulier, 57, was seen on CCTV stealing the upmarket Rimowa case belonging to Chinese traveller Cai Zhe from the luggage carousel at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 2.

Cai reported the missing bag - containing goods worth more than 100,000 THB (£25,000) - to airport police who began tracking the Coulier.

Officers pounced on Coulier, from Belgium, yesterday evening (January 17) as he tried to board a flight to Vietnam.

Coulier admitted stealing suitcases on 27 different occasions from airports around the world without being caught.

He said: ''I will look for ordinary suitcases that don't look too expensive so that officers will not suspect my behaviour.''

Coulier confessed and told the police that he had carried out luggage thefts at many airports several times without getting caught.

He was sent to the Samut Prakan Police Station and currently detained in custody for further questioning.
