Shadowhunters has revealed a first look at Luke Baines as the real Jonathan Morgenstern ahead of the show's final season.

Baines is playing the true iteration of the character, who previously assumed another identity in order to infiltrate The Shadowhunters' New York Institute.

He kidnapped and stole the identity of Senastian Verlac (played by Will Tudor), but now viewers have been given an early glimpse (via TV Line) at what Baines will look like in the role.

Back in May, co-showrunner Todd Slavkin spoke about the introduction of the real Jonathan, telling TV Line: "We’re totally excited about [Jonathan’s return]. "It’s the real Jonathan with the real DNA he was born with. It’s not going back to 2B and seeing that dynamic."

The season three midseason finale ended with Clary's (Katherine McNamara) fate up in the air following a battle with Lilith, who resurrected Jonathan but blew herself to smithereens in the process.

The second part of the season (set to air in Spring 2019) will now see Baines take over as the main villain of the series, and Slavkin has told EW that the remaining episodes will be the show's most adult and sophisticated yet.

Shadowhunters wrapped production on its final episodes in August, with the second half of the third and final season due to premiere on Monday, February 25.

The show airs on Freeform in the US, with episodes following a day later on Netflix in the UK.
