Yahoo News Pogues singer Shane MacGowan makes it home from hospital in time for Christmas
Shane MacGowan, lead singer of The Pogues, has been discharged from hospital and made it home before Christmas, according to his wife.
The 64-year-old singer, who is most famous for dueting with Kirsty MacColl on the classic Christmas song Fairytale of New York, was admitted to hospital earlier this month.

Several days later, his wife Victoria Mary Clarke updated fans and revealed he was being treated for an infection and hoped to make it home soon.
Thankfully, that has proven to be the case, with Clarke tweeting on Wednesday night that MacGowan was back at home, sharing a photo of her husband.

The 56-year-old wrote: "Shane is home and we are going to watch the football!
"Thank you everyone who has been messaging and blessings to everyone who has a loved one in hospital and who is in hospital themselves and blessings to the doctors and nurses!"

MacGowan has experienced numerous medical issues over the years and revealed earlier this year that he uses a wheelchair full time after various injuries left him unable to walk.
He broke his pelvis in 2015 and damaged ligaments in his knees after a fall in 2021.
MacGowan has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life, which contributed to him having lost the last of his natural teeth by 2008.
In 2015, he received a new set of teeth, held in place by eight titanium implants in his jaw, as part of a procedure depicted in the documentary special Shane MacGowan: A Wreck Reborn.

Fairytale of New York, following the drunken reverie of the song's narrator as he recalls a past love on Christmas Eve, was first released in 1987.
It has drawn controversy in recent years for the use of a homophobic slur in its lyrics, though MacColl began singing a version of the song with the offending word censored as far back as the early 1990s.
