AN IMPATIENT motorist was caught driving on a pedestrian pathway to skip a red light.

Dashcam footage shows the BMW driver cut across the pavement at the junction between Bursledon Road and Hinkler Road to avoid stopping at the traffic lights.

The motorist was spotted mounting the path next to Springwell School just after 4.50pm on Thursday.

Tony Jackson, who witnessed the action, said: "At the time of the footage, I was on the way to Springwell School.

"On my return later that evening there was a pregnant lady rounding the corner the other way, with her small son running ahead.

"It is only a matter of timing that they were not there when the car came through.

"The matter has been reported to the police. They responded this morning requesting the dashcam footage.

"Fortunately, the plate of the grey BMW in question is quite clear so with a bit of luck they will be able to take some action."

The footage from the dash camera was posted on the Thornhill community group Southampton Facebook page and was met with outrage.

One woman said: "I dread to think if people were walking on the pavement the other side of the bend."

Another man added: "They should have at least a one year ban for that and six points. crazy"

Hampshire police has now launched an investigation.
