Simon Gregson is in talks to host a motoring show.

The 47-year-old actor - who has played taxi driver Steve McDonald on 'Coronation Street' for over thirty years - is looking to team up with 'Wheeler Dealers' host Mike Brewer and 'Salvage Hunters' presenters Paul Cowland and Drew Pritchard for a new TV series which will explore his passion for cars.

He said: "I’m very good friends with Mike Brewer and Paul Cowland and Drew Pritchard, who all do car shows, of course. And we’re actually in talks at the moment about possibly getting something off the ground."

The telly star - who last year took time out of the ITV soap to compete on 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here' - then went on to explain he would "absolutely love" a presenting slot on the BBC's flagship car programme 'Top Gear.'

He said: "I’d absolutely love to [host 'Top Gear']. Ever since I could push a little car around the carpet they have been a huge passion of mine. And yeah, it’s just the best job in the world to present that show."

Simon - who has sons Alfie, 14, Harry, 12, and six-year-old Henry with his wife Emma Gleave - could also be trying his hand at writing after the idea for a children's book called 'Fergus the Tree Hump' came to him in a dream.

Speaking on TV show Ireland AM, he said: "I woke up at 4am and I had this dream, it was like a cartoon, the full title, including music, and the visual look of Fergus. I woke up and thought, ‘I’m going to have to write this down"
