It’s A Sin leads TV Bafta Awards nominations with nods for its stars

It’s A Sin dominates this year’s TV Baftas with 11 nominations including nods for its stars Olly Alexander and Lydia West.

Alexander, who played Ritchie in the drama about how AIDS devastated the lives of gay men in 1980s London, is nominated for the prestigious leading actor award while West, who played his friend Jill, is up for leading actress.

The show also gets nominations for best mini-series and supporting actor for three of its stars - Callum Scott Howells, David Carlyle and Omari Douglas who played Colin, Gregory and Roscoe respectively.

Alexander faces competition from stars including David Thewlis, nominated for Landscapers, Samuel Adewunmi for You Don’t Know Me and Sean Bean for prison drama Time.

Also nominated are Hugh Quarshie, nominated for his role playing Stephen Lawrence’s father in the drama about the racist murder in south London, and Stephen Graham for care home drama Help.

His co-star Jodie Comer is nominated for leading actress alongside Denise Gough and Emily Watson for Too Close, Niamh Algar for Deceit and Kate Winslet for Mare of Easttown.

The moment Adele was reunited with her old teacher, Ms McDonald, from primary school in Balham is in the running to be named Virgin Media’s must-see moment which is voted for by the public.

The singer broke down in tears as she was reunited with her in front of an audience of millions but faces competition including I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! which is nomination for presenters Ant and Dec’s regular digs at the Downing Street lockdown parties.

Also nominated are controversial show Squid Game, RuPaul’s Drag Race and Strictly Come Dancing for Rose and Giovanni’s silent dance.

It’s A Sin also gets a nomination for the moment one of its characters, Colin, is diagnosed with AIDS.

This year’s ceremony, hosted by Richard Ayoade, takes place on Sunday May 8 at the Royal Festival Hall.
