Singapore Airlines named world's top airline by TripAdvisor

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been recognised as the World’s Best Airline in TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Awards, announced the travel site on Monday (9 April).

The airline – Singapore’s national carrier – also took home awards in several other categories including Best International First Class (World); Best Airline (Asia) and Best Economy Class (World), said SIA in a news release the same day.

“We are honoured to be this year’s recipient of the Best Airline in the World title in the prestigious TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for Airlines 2018,” said Singapore Airlines’ chief executive officer Goh Choon Phong.

“The award is a validation of the hard work and dedication of our thousands of staff all around the world, who focus their attention every day on ensuring that Singapore Airlines remains competitive on a global level.”

Qatar Airways was awarded Best Business Class, while Air New Zealand was awarded Best Premium Economy. Among the global rankings, Asian carriers – SIA, Japan Airlines, EVA Air and Korean Air – took four of the top 10 spots.

According to the travel site, award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of airline reviews as well as ratings submitted by travellers worldwide over a 12-month period on TripAdvisor Flights.
