Singer songwriter Peter Sarstedt dies aged 75

The singer songwriter Peter Sarstedt has died aged 75 after a six year battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.

He was best known for the 1969 number one hit Where Do You Go To My Lovely for which he won an Ivor Novello Award for best song.

Sarstedt had a 50 year long career in music and made 14 albums, the last of which was Restless Heart released in 2013.

In a statement his family said they were "with him to the last" and that his music would be missed by many.

Peter Sarstedt was part of a musical family. Both of his parents were classically trained musicians.

His brother Richard performed under the stage name Eden Kane and had a UK number 1 in 1961 with Well I Ask You.

Another brother, Robin, reached number 3 hit in 1976 with My Resistance Is Low.

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a rare and progressive condition that causes problems with balance, movement, vision, speech and swallowing.
