Sir Cliff Richard has proposed that he and chart rival Stormzy should team up next year for a Christmas song.

The veteran singer, 82, offered to collaborate with the 29-year-old rapper despite admitting he had not heard of him until a few weeks ago.

The Mistletoe and Wine hit-maker said: “My album came in at two in the charts that covers Spotify and all those things but I came in at No1 on the physical chart.

“I’d rather be No1 but I keep saying to people, at least I’m going up – Stormzy at one, there’s only one way for him to go.”

His latest single Heart of Christmas marks his 159th release in the UK with no sign of him slowing down any time soon.

When asked about a possible duet with Stormzy - real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. - by Iain Dale on his All Talk podcast, Sir Cliff didn’t hesitate, replying: “Why not?”

Despite his impressive career in the music industry spanning over six decades, the entertainer admitted that he is not that famous in his adopted home of Barbados.

That is also surprisingly the case in Florida, USA, as well, where he has opted to spend the Christmas holidays with friends.

He explained how he often has to tell people: “I’m Cliff Richard – Google me.”

That shouldn’t be an issue next year when he will be back in the UK for an eight-date tour in 2023. He will perform for six nights at London’s Eventim Apollo, before moving on to Blackpool and Glasgow.
