Slipknot release tribute video for Joey Jordison: ‘Without him there would be no us’

Slipknot have shared a new tribute to their late drummer and founding member, Joey Jordison.

Earlier this week, a representative for Jordison’s family told Rolling Stone that he died peacefully in his sleep. A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

“Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow,” a statement from Jordison’s family read.

It continued: “To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart, and his love for all things family and music. The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans, and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time.”

Now, Slipknot have release a further tribute after already sharing a back square on social media earlier this week.

The new video features photos, live clips and backstage footage of Jordison alongside interviews and a statement from the group.

The statement reads: “Our hearts go out to Joey’s family and loved ones at this time of tremendous loss. Joey Jordison’s art, talent, and spirit could not be contained or be held back. Joey’s impact on Slipknot, on our lives, and on the music that he loved, is incalculable. Without him there would be no us. We mourn his loss with the entire Slipknot family. We love you, Joey.”

Fans have been paying tribute to the drummer on social media, as have figures from the music world.

Trivium’s Alex Ben said: “I don’t have words, to call him an inspiration would be an understatement. Countless hours studying every move behind the kit. I owe so much to Joey Jordison and could never imagine being where I am today without his influence. RIP.”

Writing on Facebook, Metallica added: “RIP brother.”

Skin, of Skunk Anansie, added: “RIP @thejoeyjordison. One of the most ferocious and entertaining bands we ever played with. What a drummer! Rock has lost another legend.”

Papa Roach said: “S***. RIP to the brother Joey Jordison. Love you brother” while Frank Turner tweeted: “Very sad to hear about Joey Jordison. Never crossed paths but he was an incredible musician. 46 is no age. RIP.”
