This is the song you keep hearing in Netflix's Russian Doll

In Netflix's new series Russian Doll, a cynical video game programmer finds herself stuck in her very own Groundhog Day as she's caught in a never-ending loop of death and resurrection.

And as Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) repeatedly dies and reawakens, a terribly catchy song plays over the top. That song is 'Gotta Get Up' from the late singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson’s 1971 album Nilsson Schmilsson.

Lyonne, who co-created Russian Doll with Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, was taken by the "buoyant doomsday quality" of Nilsson's work and told the New York Times why it was the appropriate piece of music for the story.

"There was always a kind of ending that was unpleasant that was percolating under the surface of his songs, even at their most upbeat and certainly at their darkest," she said.

Lyonne also said that she wanted to "touch something that was out of time, and a New York and East Village that was out of time".

And Russian Doll's music supervisor Brienne Rose told Refinery 29 that the track "was always something they knew they wanted for this moment, for this show.

"So that was like a guiding light for the show in terms of the music."

Anyway, now that you finally know the name of the song that's probably been endlessly playing in your head like it's stuck in its own Groundhog Day, you can purchase it for yourself on iTunes here, or stream on Spotify.

As for Russian Doll itself, Netflix hasn't confirmed yet if there's going to be another season, but it would hardly be in keeping with the show if it only got to go round once.

Co-creator Leslye Headland told The Hollywood Reporter: "We pitched Netflix three seasons of the most bonkers, heartfelt, passionate, this-is-what-we-truly-feel-like-is-our-story-to-tell idea… And they said: 'Great, the more of that the better.'"

Russian Doll season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
