Star Trek's Jean-Luc Picard spin-off confirms filming has begun

It looks like everyone behind the Star Trek Captain Picard spin-off has finally started to 'engage' with production.

Writer Michael Chabon has posted an Instagram photo officially revealing filming on the series has begun. His photo has since been deleted, but thankfully the good people at Trek Central screencapped it and shared it on Twitter:

We don't know why he deleted the post, since it didn't even reveal the name of the project. Maybe the people behind it are going to make a sparkly announcement video thing revealing the title in the very near future.

But we do know that Sir Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard, and the series will focus on the character in the later years of his life.

The show (or at least the first season) will consist of 10 episodes, with episodes three and four being directed by The Next Generation's Commander Riker himself, Jonathan Frakes.

Frakes said: "It is a ten-episode movie, as Patrick put it one time, it is a very ambitious approach to television, in the first season."

Although Frakes won't be appearing in the show (so we think), Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd and newcomer Evan Evagora have been cast.

Stewart himself has teased that there could be three seasons of the show, which is exciting, isn't it?

Picard's untitled series doesn't have an air date just yet, but you can catch Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access in the US and on Netflix a day later in the UK.
