Stephen Fry says he wouldn't be surprised if the BBC sacked him

Stephen Fry has admitted that he would not be surprised if the BBC decided to sack him.

The 64-year-old TV presenter has worked on and off with the broadcaster throughout his career, most famously when he hosted QI between 2003 and 2016.

Appearing at the BFI and Radio Times Television Festival, Fry admitted the BBC may move on from him: "I’m not as old as the BBC but I'm getting there.

"You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was shown a red card. I can’t imagine myself stopping because I enjoy it too much."

He added: "I can imagine people saying: 'do we really need this fat, old, white b*****?' I’d be very upset if I was some great hero of comedy and drama who I sometimes overhear saying, 'f****** BBC, once you get past… don’t they know what I’ve done for them?'"

Fry, who has also authored several best-selling books, said he had no interest in retiring: "I’m of an age that I could retire, so everything that’s coming to me is lucky. I’m happy to still be asked to do things."

Fry also expanded on some of his upcoming projects: "I have a couple of things for Netflix coming up. There’s a Neil Gaiman one I’m looking forward to, it’s just a small part in the adaptation of The Sandman. I’m very fortunate and lucky. I don’t mean to sound like I’m ready to settle down but we’re living in a very interesting time, there’s a huge change going on."

As well as QI, Fry is most notable for being one half of the comedy duo Fry and Laurie. The two famously starred in sketch show A Bit of Fry and Laurie and later the comedy-drama Jeeves and Wooster.

Fry would also draw acclaim for his role in Blackadder.
