Strictly's John and Johannes confess they fell out during training

Watch: John Whaite reveals Strictly bust up with Johannes

Strictly Come Dancing runners-up John Whaite and Johannes Radebe have confessed they fell out during training.

Former Great British Bake Off winner and his professional dance partner got to the final of the BBC dance show as the first ever all-male couple and admitted the pressure did get to them at times.

Whaite told Good Morning Britain: “It’s such an intimate process. When you spend 10 hours a day, five-six days a week with someone, you expect there to be a lot of clashing, but we didn’t. We always spoke very honestly about how we both felt, if there was something I was anxious about in a dance or if there was something I wasn’t getting.

“We had a few cross words, let’s face it, we’re human beings, we fell out once or twice, but we didn’t let it get us for long, did we?”

Radebe answered, "No."

And the baker said he has been delighted by the positive response from traditionally-minded viewers who had told him how their minds had been changed about seeing same-sex couples in the ballroom.

He said: "The amount of support we’ve had from people… even when people say things like, ‘I was very doubtful that this would work, but it’s changed my point of view’. How great is that?

“You don’t have to be angry that they once had that opinion. What we have to celebrate is the fact they were open minded enough to watch us and actually change their opinion and that is how change is created - slowly, gently, small baby steps to fabulous music and lots of brilliant costumes, darling.”

"I knew that when I told her about the partnership, she said, 'oh, you're dancing with a man?' I said, 'Yes, Mummy, I'm dancing with a man and his name is John.'

"There was this awkward silence and she was like, 'ok'. I think like everyone else she was waiting to see how it played out because she's such a traditionalist and I remember our first Tango, she called me and was like, 'that was brilliant'. It has been special."

Strictly 2021 was won by EastEnders actor Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice.
