Ahead of its season 4 premiere, Supergirl has made a major casting change to one of its White House characters.

Bruce Boxleitner will join the CW series, taking over the role of Vice President Baker.

The character was previously played by Brent Spiner, who had to leave the show due to family issues that conflicted with production dates.

Boxleitner (above) is one of many cast changes to occur in the upcoming season. Jesse Rath will be joining as Brainiac 5 / Brainy, April Parker Jones will play new character Colonel Haley and Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty.

Nicole Maines (below) will also be a regular as Nia Nal / Dreamer, a cub reporter who previously worked for Cat Grant as a White House intern and becomes Kara's protege at CatCo. She's also TV's first ever transgender superhero, with the ability to see the future.

And Rhona Mitra is also joining the cast as villainess Mercy Graves – a character who, in the original DC comic books, served as Lex Luthor's bodyguard. Here, though, she'll be a central player in National City's ever-expanding 'human-first' movement.

There are some stars who will no longer be part of the main cast, however, including Jeremy Jordan (Winn), Odette Annable (Samantha Arias / Reign), Erica Durance (Kara's mother Alura) and Chris Wood (Mon-El).

But fans will be delighted to know that the rest of the main cast will be returning, including Supergirl/Kara herself Melissa Benoist (obviously).

Supergirl season 4 will premiere Sunday, October 14 at 8/7c on The CW.
