Yahoo News Supergirl star Chyler Leigh thanks fans for "outpouring of love" after opening up about sexuality
Supergirl star Chyler Leigh has thanked her fans for their support after opening up about her sexuality.
On Monday (June 8), the actor published a short essay on Create Change, the online platform she co-founded with her husband, explaining how her character Alex Danvers' coming out arc would "become a variation of [her] own" in real life.
Later that same day, Leigh took to Instagram to share her appreciation for the "outpouring of love" she'd received since the article emerged online.

"Once we face our own true selves, we can better see the world around us, as well as how we can make a positive and lasting change for the sake of equality and love," she said.
"I'm grateful to see more clearly, breathe a little easier, and I'm proud to contribute to all that I believe in with an honest, open heart."
Several of her co-stars flooded the comments section with their own positive reactions, including Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist, and Floriana Lima, who played Alex's former fiancée Maggie Sawyer on the show – a character that was instrumental in her coming to terms with the fact that she's a lesbian.

"Love you sister," Benoist replied, as Lima wrote: "Chy, I'm so unbelievably PROUD and HAPPY for you. You are a beautiful example of fearless honesty, and I couldn't admire you more."
Elsewhere, Nicole Maines, who plays Nia Nal AKA Dreamer, added: "I'm so incredibly proud of you and I am so happy for you. Sending you all my love and support."
"Wonderful, Chyler," David Harewood wrote, as Querl Dox actor Jesse Rath said: "I love you, Chyler!".
Supergirl airs on Sundays at 9/8c on The CW in the US. Sky One and NOW TV air the show in the UK.
