Super-good news now, Supergirl fans. Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) might make a comeback to the show, despite the recent split between her and Alex Danvers.

Despite almost getting things back on track at the end of season 3's episode 'Damage', Maggie/Alex split as the detective didn't want to have children.

Now Chyler Leigh, who plays Alex, has revealed that her former lover could still return to the show, which will surely be great news for 'Sanvers' fans, who have been shipping the pair heavily since they got it together in season 2.

Speaking to TV Line, Leigh explained: "In a lot of ways, it felt like a genuine breakup.

"I love Floriana [Lima] to pieces. She's amazing. What we were able to do together for the community, but also for just like our friendship and being able to establish such strong characters… that goes beyond how many episodes we do together. I'm incredibly grateful for that."

But could we see more of the character in future despite the heartbreaking split? Well, the answer is yes… maybe.

She continued: "If she can come back, I know we would all love to have that happen. I don't know what that would look like … but that's not my job. My job is to do the best with what has been handed to me."

Despite having to chug wine to get through the emotional scenes with her co-star Florina Lima, Chyler Leigh revealed that this won't be the end of her character's "groundbreaking" plot.

She added: "It doesn't mean that Alex isn't still a lesbian. It doesn't mean that Alex's journey ends there. It means that this is a loss, but also a gain for herself in understanding who she is. And no relationship is ever going to be guaranteed."

Also looking to the future, the Superman prequel TV series has just cast one of its big bads, while over in the DCEU movie universe it's been revealed that their version of The Flash won't actually become The Flash during the upcoming superhero team up.

Supergirl continues each Monday at 8pm ET on The CW in the US. Sky One airs the series in on Tuesdays in the UK.
