Susanna Reid missing from Good Morning Britain after crying over Piers Morgan exit

Susanna Reid was missing from Good Morning Britain on Thursday morning after being reduced to tears over Piers Morgan’s shock resignation.

The presenter, who spent more than five years co-hosting the show with Morgan, was replaced by Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard.

Reid usually presents the programme from Monday to Wednesday with Morgan, and with Shephard on Thursday.

But she was absent from the show this morning, a day after she paid an emotional tribute to Morgan.

Opening the show on Wednesday, she said: “Some of you may cheer and others will boo, he has been my presenting partner Monday to Wednesday for more than five years.

“During Brexit and the pandemic and other issues, he has been a voice for many of you and a voice that many of you have railed against.

“It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go,” she added.

According to The Sun, Reid was left in tears after Morgan dramatically resigned when ITV bosses asked him to publicly apologise for his comments about Meghan Markle.

Following Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, he said he “didn’t believe a word” after the duchess revealed she didn’t want to live anymore when working as a senior royal.

His remarks sparked 41,000 Ofcom complaints, with the duchess also complaining to ITV’s CEO.

Meghan was reportedly concerned about how Morgan’s comments could affect those struggling with mental health issues.

Morgan later said in a Tweet that he did not regret his comments.

“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview,” he said.

“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

He also shared a quote attributed to Sir Winston Churchill which said: “Some people’s idea of free speech is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage.”
