Taskmaster kicks off new series with surprise 'Doctor Who' cameo
Taskmaster returned for series nine on Dave tonight (September 4), with David Baddiel, Ed Gamble, Jo Brand, Katy Wix and Rose Matafeo taking on a bizarre series of challenges set by Alex Horne and Greg Davies.
For their first task, the contestants had to hide three aubergines in a room for Alex to find, with whoever kept him looking the longest being declared the winner.
David at first tried to eat them, then stuck one to a painting of Greg and stuffed the rest in his pants, while Ed came out the winner by stuffing some in a toy baby's head.
Next, they had to arrange a set of lollies in rainbow order while wearing goggles. However, they were allowed to take off their goggles if they found the dodo in the area (but they could only accuse one object of being a dodo).
While most failed at finding the dodo, Ed discovered it almost immediately, but then had trouble remembering the order of the rainbow.
The contestants were then challenged with having to make a dramatic entrance into the Taskmaster compound.
David used a telephone box to enter as Jodie Whittaker's Doctor (watch the tweet below), complete with wig and costume, while Jo Brand dressed up as Henry VIII to serve Alex's head on a plate and Katy entered as a cult leader with four balloon-headed women attached to her.

But Ed opted for something much more scary as he entered in a cloak accompanied by the babies' heads he used to hide his aubergine, but this time they were lit up and even more terrifying.

While Rose, who won the task, camouflaged herself as a bush and jumped out, scaring Greg in the process.

In the end, it was Rose who won the first episode thanks to her lolly-sorting and camouflage skills.
Next week, all five contestants will be back to compete in another set of crazy, creative challenges with the hope of winning the coveted Taskmaster trophy.
Taskmaster returns next Wednesday (September 11) on Dave. Catch up on all episodes of Taskmaster on UKTV Play.
