'The Wire' star Clarke Peters says The Rolling Stones owe him royalties

The Wire star Clarke Peters claims that The Rolling Stones owe him royalties for singing on one of their songs.

Before acting, Peters also performed as a backing singer including for the legendary rock band.

In an interview with The Mirror, Peters detailed not remembering which song he recorded on: "The one I did for the Stones...I cannot remember what it was. I got maybe 35 or 40 quid for it and I was away."

Peters, who is best known for playing Detective Lester Freamon in The Wire, the said he is owed royalties by the band: "Then 30 years later, they say, "you know what? If you can figure out what songs you were on, you can get the residuals.'"

Peters is currently competing on Celebrity Masterchef alongside the likes of former boxer Chris Eubank, Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph and TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher.

Though American, Peters has been based in the UK since the 1970's when he performed in West End musicals.

While best known for his work in the US, Peters has also appeared in a number of British TV shows including His Dark Materials, Doctors and Bulletproof.

Peters has also had several successful collaborations with writer David Simon, working with him on The Wire, The Corner, Show Me a Hero and Treme.

The New York born actors was most recently seen in the TV remake of The Man Who Fell to Earth alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris.

His most notable film roles include John Wick, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and as one of the leads in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods along with Delroy Lindo.

Peters is set to star in Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody as the singer's father, John.
