This is the extraordinary moment police stopped a driver after they saw long planks of wood hanging from the back of his vehicle.

Leeds Police spotted the motorist on Stanningley Road on Tuesday, with the timber spread out across both his car and a separate trailer.

The wood appeared to be tied up precariously as it balanced on the trailer – meaning the vehicle would’ve had extreme difficulty in turning corners.

The force wrote on Twitter: “This precarious looking vehicle, sighted on Stanningley Road, saw its driver receive a traffic offence report for 'Unsuitable use'.

“This certainly isn't an appropriate means of transporting goods!”

Tweeters were quick to make light of the “basic physics” of the situation, while warning of the dangers of driving with the wood hanging onto a trailer.
