Tina: Viewers left ‘heartbroken’ by ‘amazing’ new documentary about Tina Turner’s life
Viewers are reacting to a “heartbreaking” new Tina Turner documentary which was released on Saturday (27 March).
Directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin, Tina tells the story of the singer’s life, looking at how she overcame abuse by her ex-husband Ike Turner to relaunch her career.
The programme includes new interviews with the “Proud Mary” singer, plus recently unearthed footage from over the years.
The documentary, which has been described by Turner as a “farewell” to her fans as she retires, has been widely praised, with some viewers comparing it to the recently released film Framing Britney Spears.
“I just watched the HBO documentary about Tina Turner. I was crying at the end. She never felt loved until she was in her 50s. That broke my heart,” one viewer wrote.

“I hope everybody watches the Tina Turner doc,” one viewer wrote. “I hope media receives the same criticism it did after the Britney doc. It’s a shame Tina was the biggest star in the world and they kept asking about raggedy a** Ike. She left him and they refused to let her escape the trauma.”

Tina is available to watch on Sky Documentaries in the UK. US viewers can watch on HBO Max.
