Tom Hardy has described himself as a "posh, middle class t**t" and admitted that he affects accents to make himself seem interesting.

The British actor was born and brought up in west London, the son of an artist and comedy writer and attended a private boys school before studying at drama college.

Hardy, 44, described his accent in an online Q&A with Wired as: "Mellifluous, at best. It's a collage of places, people, feelings, it's irrelevant. If you understand me that's all that matters. It's a hybrid of wish fulfilment and shame."

He went on to confess: "I think I'm bourgeois, middle class, posh, middle class t**t really. And I affect it with all kinds of interesting variants, to make myself seem interesting. Moving on."

Hardy was in conversation with Lord Of The Rings star Andy Serkis, who directs him in new Marvel superhero movie Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and they were answering the internet's most searched questions about themselves.

The star of Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant also revealed that while he used to sing to his children when they were young, but his kids are now embarrassed when he tries.

Hardy – who has a teenage son with his ex-girlfriend Rachael Speed, as well as a five-year-old daughter and two-year-old son with his actor wife Charlotte Riley – claimed to be a bad singer.

He said: "I don't sing. It's not something that I feel the need to express myself through the medium of.

"Sometimes I'd sing to the babies when they were babies, just so they get to know my voice.

"But now my children say, 'Daddy don't sing because it rains when you sing.'"
