Yahoo News The Transgender Sister of a Trump Inauguration Singer Won Bathroom Rights in Federal Court
Juliet Evancho-the transgender sister of Jackie Evancho, a singer who performed at President Donald Trump's inauguration last month-and two of her classmates were granted access to school bathrooms that match their gender identity.
U.S. District Court Judge Mark R. Hornak ruled on Monday that Pine-Richland School District in Pennsylvania must not force transgender students to use only single-person bathrooms or those that match their sex at birth. The plantiffs were Juliet Evancho, Elissa Ridenour, and another student who identified only as A.S.
Hornak wrote in an order on Monday, as Buzzfeed News reports:
"The Plaintiffs appear to the Court to be young people seeking to do what young people try to do every day-go to school, obtain an education, and interact as equals with their peers. … [T]he Plaintiffs have shown a reasonable likelihood of success on the merits of their claim that the District's enforcement of Resolution 2 as to their use of common school restrooms does not afford them equal protection of the law as guaranteed to them by the Fourteenth Amendment."
The ruling comes less than a week after the Trump administration withdrew an Obama-era policy stating that transgender students must have access to bathrooms that match their true gender identity.

Lambda Legal Staff Attorney Omar Gonzalez-Pagan said in statement that policies such as the bathroom bill are "not only wrong, they are illegal," adding that the Trump administration "cannot change that."
