Donald Trump has turned his Twitter fire on North Korea again – this time targeting the country’s foreign minister.

The US president took to social media to attack Ri Yong Ho.

Mr Trump tweeted that the foreign minister would not be ‘around much longer’ – nor his boss Kim Jong-un – if he repeated threats made by the North Korean leader.

It is the latest stage in a continuing war of words between the leaders of the two countries.

North Korea’s foreign minister told the United Nations’ General Assembly that it was ‘inevitable’ that Pyongyang would fire its rockets at the US mainland after Mr Trump called Kim Jong-un ‘rocket man’.

Ri Yong Ho was speaking just hours after US Air Force bombers flew in international airspace over waters east of North Korea, increasing tensions further.

“Through such a prolonged and arduous struggle, now we are finally only a few steps away from the final gate of completion of the state nuclear force,’ Ri said.

‘It is only a forlorn hope to consider any chance that the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) would be shaken an inch or change its stance due to the harsher sanctions by the hostile forces.’

He also called the American leader a ‘mentally deranged person full of meglamania’.

After he spoke, Mr Trump took to Twitter.

‘Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won’t be around much longer!,’ wrote the US president.

The latest spat comes after the announcement of US sanctions last week targeting companies and institutions that finance trade with North Korea.

This comes after the UN security council earlier this month announced its ninth round of sanctions on Pyongyang to counter its nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes.
