The 5 best shows on TV tonight: Monday 12 April

While many will undoubtedly be making the most of the pubs opening once again, others will still be curled up in front of the TV tonight as usual.

This evening's TV sees a new drama from ITV make its debut, as Emily Watson plays a psychiatrist who develops a dangerously close relationship with a woman she must assess.

Denise Gough plays opposite Watson in the mini-series that will run across three consecutive nights.

Elsewhere, Greta Thunberg explores the effects of climate change in North America over on BBC One.

Alan Titchmarsh: Spring into Summer - 8pm - ITV

The green-fingered TV star is joined by this week's celebrity guest, Strictly Come Dancing's Anton du Beke who talks about cheering up the nation this summer.

Meanwhile, horticulturist Camilla Bassett-Smith opens up her cottage garden and there's also a glimpse at some birds of prey.

Mastermind - 8pm - BBC Two

Things hot up for the quiz show as it edges closer to the final with its third semi-final this week.

The specialist subjects this week are the history of the Liberal Democrats, the films of Powell and Pressburger, the Bauhaus movement and Emil Zátopek.

It's also nearly time for last John Humphrys last ever episode before he's replaced by Clive Myrie.

Jamie: Keep Cooking Family Favourites - 8pm - Channel 4

Tonight's recipes sees the chef whip up a baked casserole using the humble sausage, accompanying it with crispy yet soft potato dumplings.

Oliver also conjures up an aubergine dressed with homemade pesto on a bed of salad with a flatbread on the side.

Greta Thunberg: A Year to Change the World - 9pm - BBC One

Climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg's year traveling the globe sustainably is captured in this three-part series.

The first episode documents her time spent in North America in 2019 as she explores the impact of climate change in different places, including how a small change in temperature has allowed an insect infestation to kill nearly half the trees in a Canadian Rockies park.

Elsewhere in California she visits Paradise, the town gripped by destructive wildfires in 2018.

Too Close - 9pm - ITV

Emily Watson and Denise Gough head up this ITV's new psychological mini-series focused on the relationship between two women.

Watson plays forensic psychiatrist Dr Emma Robertson who must work with Gough's Connie Mortensen, a woman accused of a crime that she claims she can't remember.

When Dr Robertson is sent to assess Connie for her trial, the pair become dangerously close.
