Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' Will Mellor has shared a somewhat disappointing update on his planned reboot of the popular sitcom.

In a new interview with the Daily Star, the actor, who most recently appeared in Coronation Street, revealed that the scripts have already been written and that it's planned to be a spin-off surrounding his character Gaz Williamson and his best pal Jonny Keogh (Ralf Little).

There's just one snag... the BBC passed on it when he and creator Susan Nickson pitched it to them.

"Fans are going mad for it, so we've got the audience. It's called Two Pints: Last Orders. It's revamped, it's really funny," he explained. "It's been brought up to the modern day but Gaz and Johnny are still very old school and sit in the pub talking about pies and beer.

"The BBC said no, they don't want to revisit Two Pints," Mellor admitted, before explaining that he and Nickson aren't going to let the rejection get them down. "Now we're going to look for someone else, whether it's another channel, whether it's Britbox or Netflix, because there's a massive audience for this."

Also starring Kathryn Drysdale, Natalie Casey and Gavin & Stacey's Sheridan Smith, Two Pints of Lager aired between 2001 and 2011, and centred on five Cheshire-based twentysomethings as they navigated life and love.

Back in July, Nickson opened up about her hopes for the new outing while appearing as a guest on the Drama School Dropout podcast, suggesting that she'd love to see "ageing, working-class geezers" Gaz and Jonny exploring the Time's Up movement.

"Some men might not understand that the bad guys exist," she explained. "I want to see the comforting story of people like Gaz and Jonny, who live in a world where bad guys don't exist. I want them to acknowledge the bad guys are out there, though, but I don't want Gaz and Jonny to be them."
