TV viewers have called the drama based on the Wagatha Christie trial 'rubbish' and 'cheesy' but admitted they couldn’t stop watching anyway.

Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama is based on the 'Wagatha Christie' libel battle between WAGs Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney, which gripped the nation earlier this year.

Starring Natalia Tena as Vardy, Chanel Cresswell as Rooney and Michael Sheen as a barrister, it started on Channel 4 this week and viewers were hooked.

Many said they were fully invested and that it was great TV.

One viewer even called the show an “early Christmas present”.

“Only at the first ad break and I already love every moment of this,” they said.

“Michael Sheen is an inspired casting choice as is Natalia Tena as Vardy. Just next level, incredible stuff.”

The Wagatha Christie saga started in 2019 when Rooney, who is married to footy ace Wayne, accused Vardy of leaking stories from her Instagram account to The Sun newspaper.

She posted a message on social media saying that she had been investigating who had been leaking information about her and claiming that Vardy – the wife of footballer Jamie – was the culprit.

Vardy, 40, denied the claim and sued Rooney for libel but lost the case.
