'We're Building an Army, Folks!' Jane Fonda Addresses Crowd at Washington Climate Protest

Jane Fonda addressed a large crowd at a Fire Drill Fridays climate protest in Washington DC, where she was joined by fellow actors Joaquin Phoenix, Susan Sarandon, and Martin Sheen, local media reported.

The Fire Drill Fridays demonstrations were modeled after the Fridays for Future climate protests started over a year ago by Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

In this video, Fonda can be seen delivering a rousing address to the crowd, beginning by reminiscing about the first Fire Drill Friday protest last year. “There were maybe 20 people,” she said. “We’re building an army, folks!”

Sheen also addressed the crowd with a fiery speech he finished with the line: “Let our country awake!” Credit: Adam Powers via Storyful
