They were brought in to ruffle some feathers in Hollyoaks, but even the most optimistic fans couldn't have predicted just how much the Roscoe clan would liven things up. Initially introduced to bad boy Robbie and drug dealer Freddie, viewers soon met three more brothers and their unconventional mum Sandy.

There was never a dull moment with the Roscoes around, but it was Freddie's wife Lindsey who caused the most chaos. She murdered seven characters during her reign as the Gloved Hand Killer before she tried to off her own husband.

But what happened next for the actors, and have their post-Hollyoaks lives been as much of a surprise as their on-screen revelations? Here's what they've been up to:

1. Sophie Austin (Lindsey Roscoe née Butterfield, 2013-2016)

Lindsey showed she was capable of some very dark deeds when she was involved in Doctor Browning's death, but no-one suspected her when the Gloved Hand Killer wreaked havoc and all fingers pointed at her sister Kim Butterfield instead.

After 10 months of intrigue, Lindsey was finally unmasked when she dished out her trademark injection to Freddie. She later went on the run, but got her comeuppance when she was murdered by Silas Blissett.

Sophie Austin has since appeared in Casualty, Tina and Bobby and Moving On. She also won praise from fans for her emotional portrayal of Marjory Chivers in Call the Midwife in January 2018.

The 34-year-old also has a daughter called Willow with Coronation Street's Shayne Ward, and the couple announced their engagement on Instagram on Boxing Day 2017.

2. Charlie Clapham (Freddie Roscoe, 2013-2017)

Thankfully for Charlie's character Freddie, the Gloved Hand Killer didn't do away with him after all. Viewers thought he'd been murdered as part of the soap's 20th anniversary episodes, but when police found Freddie's 'dead' body, his hand moved.

During his four years at Hollyoaks, he kept fans gripped with gangster feuds and explosive relationships, murdered Fraser Black and nearly drowned Nick Savage in a violent showdown.

Despite surviving the chilling Gloved Hand episode, Charlie later bowed out of the soap with an emotional farewell video. He moved to Los Angeles to develop his acting career and is calling on fans to help fund the completion of his current big-screen project.

The actor headed off to the desert to shoot psychological crime thriller Poached, which he also co-produced. When he's not promoting his short film, you'll find him working out with his training buddy, actor Joseph Gatt.

3. Charlie Wernham (Robbie Roscoe, 2013-2016)

The first Roscoe to appear, troublemaker Robbie was involved in some huge plots including John Paul's male rape storyline, which Charlie credits as his best Hollyoaks scenes.

Robbie's relationship with his teacher Nancy Osborne also got him in hot water, as did his affair with Holly Cunningham behind twin brother Jason's back. But the pair proved blood was thicker than water, or in this case blondes, and they jetted off for a new life abroad with mum Sandy.

Not one to believe in taking time out, Charlie was straight into auditioning and played Jason in TV mini-series Mad World.

He also landed the part of Steve Jones in Sky Arts show Urban Myths: The Sex Pistols Vs Bill Grundy and stars Daniel Mays, Steve Pemberton and Kieran Hodgson.

Charlie also shared the screen with familiar faces in British crime film Hooligan Escape, playing Davie alongside former Hollyoaks actress Ali Bastian and ex-Emmerdale star Ben Freeman.

4. Alfie Browne-Sykes (Jason Roscoe, 2013-2016)

Copper Jason had a strong bond with Robbie and even covered for him when he got into trouble.

While the pair may have started out as polar opposites, Jason's life was not without drama. Despite Holly's last-minute attempt to stop Robbie from leaving, the brothers waved goodbye in 2016, with Alfie reflecting on a "life-changing" three years.

The actor was just about to turn 18 when he got the part of Jason and left the family home in London for Liverpool. So it's no surprise that when the time came to leave Soapland, he wanted to stretch his acting skills by treading the boards.

His first play has seen him take on the role of underage World War One soldier Tipper in a touring production of Birdsong, appearing in the show alongside ex-EastEnders star Riley Carter Millington.

However, Alfie hasn't fully ditched the small screen. He appeared in the BBC's feature-length drama Damilola, Our Loved Boy, which aired August 2017.

5. Gillian Taylforth (Sandy Roscoe, 2013-2015)

After playing Kathy Beale in EastEnders for 15 years, soap royalty Gillian joined Hollyoaks as the no-nonsense matriarch of the Roscoes.

Single mum Sandy had her work cut out, holding down her job as a district nurse and trying to keep her sons in control as they ran Roscoes' Motor Maintenance.

Gillian left in summer 2014 to spend more time with her real-life family, but she was last seen in the Channel 4 show in January 2015 when Sandy left to start a new life in Canada.

Despite her EastEnders character's apparent death off-screen in 2006, Gillian then made a shock return to Walford as part of the soap's 30th anniversary episode in February 2015.

She later returned to Albert Square, making a permanent EastEnders comeback in August 2015.

Gillian accepted an Outstanding Achievement Award at the Inside Soap Awards in November 2017.

6. Ayden Callaghan (Joe Roscoe, 2013-2016)

Former Emmerdale actor Ayden was cast as Joe Roscoe, the eldest brother who always looked out for his siblings. The 36-year-old actor left after a "thrilling climax" as Joe cheated on fiancée Mercedes McQueen with bunny boiler Joanne Cardsley, then got caught up in a fairground disaster just when they'd resolved things.

In real life Ayden is married to former CBeebies presenter Sarah-Jane Honeywell. The couple are parents to two-year-old son Phoenix Hudson and welcomed their second son Indiana Fox in January 2018.

Proud dad Ayden recently revealed the blind panic of missing the birth of baby number two while he was in London for the day.

Workwise, he popped up in Doctors as Damon McCormick in April 2017.

7. Fabrizio Santino (David "Ziggy" Roscoe, 2013-2015)

Mechanic Ziggy was the first Roscoe brother to leave after being killed off in 2015.

The hero met his end after saving wife Leela Lomax from a catastrophic explosion caused by Cameron Campbell. Ziggy initially survived the fire and decided to make a go of it with Leela's sister Tegan, but later died during a Christmas episode.

While viewers were heartbroken, Fabrizio said he was pleased with the "powerful ending" for his character.

Since leaving, the actor has set his sights on films and theatre. He was cast as police officer James in British comedy horror flick Are We Dead Yet?, which features ex-Hollyoaks actor Paul Danan.

Other castings include the lead role of James Robins in Fragments, and Charlie Chisholm in Black Russian starring Shane Richie.

Fab's also been busy plugging the play Blackout as its assistant director – and even stood in for a performance. The play by Synergy Theatre Project toured schools until a week-long run at London's Ovalhouse in March 2018.

He also shot romantic comedy The Naked Poet in 2016, and two shorts, He'll Be Back in a Minute and Again.
