Yahoo News X Factor's Matt Terry gives new judges verdict
The X Factor has had quite the shake-up for its new series, adding three new judges into the mix alongside Simon Cowell.
While Robbie Williams, Ayda Field and Louis Tomlinson have been met with a mixed reception since the series began a few weeks ago, one former winner reckons change is only a good thing.
Matt Terry walked away with the crown back in 2016, and talked exclusively to Digital Spy about the new line-up.
"I think it's nice to have change," he said. "I think it's a good change. I think it's nice to change things every now and then."
While he is yet to watch the new series due to his commitments to the touring production of Madagascar the Musical, Matt did have some advice for this year's contestants.
"Just enjoy it and take every day as it comes, be yourself... and get good songs," he said.
Earlier this year, the singer parted ways with record label RCA, and has now opened up about it, admitting that he has no hard feelings towards the label.
"For me, it was just I wanted to branch out and have a bit more," Matt continued. "Don't get me wrong, I love my family there at Sony, but I feel like I wanted to head off and do some Spanish stuff. So I'm in talks with Sony Madrid."
He is also planning to return to the studio in December, so watch this space Matt stans.
Meanwhile, in other X Factor news, the last week has been dominated by controversy over Robbie deadnaming a trans contestant on last Saturday's (September 8) auditions.
However, the singer in question, Felix Shepherd, has opened up about the situation, saying he feels "indifferent" and that the show did not air their full exchange.
"I wasn't offended by anything he said, so that's the most important thing," he explained. "I do feel people are entitled and would feel different ways about it."
Felix added: "It wasn't shown that he did actually ask me beforehand if it was okay. They didn't show that on the TV."
