X Factor winner and radio presenter to switch on Durham Christmas lights

The Durham Christmas lights switch on will be taking place at the end of November and two guest stars have been announced for the occasion.

Radio presenter and comedienne Sue Sweeney and singer Joe McElderry will be the ones to have the honour this year.

On their social media Durham BID posted: "Jingle bells, jingle bells!

"We know it's still a bit early but we're excited to share the news! Durham's Christmas light switch on takes place on Sunday the 27th November.

"We've got special guests Joe McElderry and Khalysis along with Durham On Air host Sue Sweeney.

"Come along and join in the fun, we'd love to see you all there."

Sweeney is known for her work for BBC Radio Newcastle presenting many shows over the course of 20 plus years, and now is part of Durham On Air.

Meanwhile, McElderry won the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, and has since released five albums and gone on tour multiple times.

When is the Durham Christmas lights switch on?

The event will take place on Sunday, November 27 at Durham Market Place sometime between 5pm and 6.15pm.

Aside from the lights being switched on there will be some live music from McElderry and Khalysis, family entertainment and much more.
