The X Factor's Olly Murs has sadly been forced to cancel his summer tour due to surgery to aid a knee injury.

The 'Seasons' hitmaker, who came second on the ITV singing show 12 years ago, was meant to perform at venues between June and September this year across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

But now he's confirmed that won't be going ahead, stating on Instagram: "I am gutted to have to write this message but unfortunately I've had to undergo major new knee surgery again this week.

"Been trying my best to avoid having it done but the op was needed and it went well. I'm recovering in hospital but it means I'm having to cancel all my summer shows this year whilst I focus on my rehab. Refunds will all be available from your point of purchase and please keep an eye out for any emails from your ticketing agent over the next few days.

"I'm so sorry but my focus now is on recovering and I'll keep you all updated on how I'm getting on!"

Stars including Marvin Humes, Jake Quickenden, Ore Oduba and Catherine Tyldesley all wished the singer well in the comments, with Quickenden hoping that he would be fighting fit in time for the next Soccer Aid charity match.

Following the surgery, which took place this week and was a success, Murs has to undergo six months of rehabilitation for his knee. He injured it during a performance in August of last year, but continued with show as best he could.

At the time, Murs explained: "It's been a mad 72 hours since the gig, getting to this point. After my second song, a fragment of bone that was in my knee, after I jumped, managed to lodge itself in the back of my knee, which basically shut my leg down and during the gig I was just limping the whole time."
