‘I Decided It Was Time To Get Out’: Coronation Street’s Oliver Mellor Speaks Out On ‘Passionate’ Affair With Kym Marsh

Coronation Street star Oliver Mellor has spoken out on his alleged affair with fellow co-star Kym Marsh, claiming the pair were totally “in love” adding he is glad the former Hear’say pop princess has split with her now ex-husband, Jamie Lomas because he “didn’t make her happy”.

However it was Kym’s guilt, which eventually became too much for the pair, as the former Corrie star insists it was his decision to call off the fling, knowing she would never leave her former hubby.

Recalling the brief relationship to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the star who played Dr Matt Carter in the ITV soap revealed: “Sadly at the time, I thought Kym would never leave Jamie so I decided it was time to get out”.

Kym recently divorced Eastenders star Jamie Lomas earlier this month, while Oliver told the paper he couldn’t say whether it was his relationship with the 37-year-old yummy mummy, which brought their marriage to an end but he admitted: “I’m glad Kym split from Jamie. He didn't make her happy.”

Mellor claimed the pair initially grew closer during filming on the cobbled streets of Corrie, despite both being with other partners. but eventually their feelings took over and despite their on going guilt, they just couldn’t fight it any more.

"We loved each other and we weren't afraid to say it. It wasn't something we intended to happen, but we couldn't stop our feelings,” he claimed.

"We planned a future together. We dreamed about me moving up north and living together. We spoke of how wonderful life would be.

"The last thing Kym wanted to do was hurt anyone," Oliver stressed. "And she knew what we were doing could have serious consequences for everyone.

"But the fact we were both willing to take those risks when the stakes were so high shows how much it meant."

Recalling the first time they got together, Oliver spoke of how after a boozy night with their fellow cast mates, he decided to make the first move, confessing: "I sent Kym a text saying, 'snog? X'. I'd wanted to kiss her for weeks. She said yes and we found a quiet spot.

"A few days later I was due to shoot my final scenes before moving south to be in a play. I hadn't been able to stop thinking about that night so I asked Kym to my dressing room for a goodbye kiss."

Kym Marsh and Jamie Lomas who are parents to daughter Polly, were granted a divorce after calling quits on their 16-month marriage, while Oliver was himself in a five-year relationship with PR executive, Charlotte Bury during the reported affair.

Now, the Corrie doc has revealed he is happy in his new relationship with glamour model and former Celebrity Big Brother star Rhian Sugden, adding he is now, “truly happy for the first time”.
