The Labour party wants to see a “workplace revolution” to improve the lives of women at work, promising a raft of new policies on extended maternity pay, the menopause, gender pay reporting and harassment. Key among those is the pledge to extend maternity pay to an year. Dawn Butler, Labour’s shadow women and equalities secretary, said she wanted to see a “step change in how women are treated at work”. She said the party's manifesto will include a pledge to increase statutory maternity pay from nine to 12 months. The Confederation of British Industry has also welcomed this despite being critical of some of Labour's other policies on work and business.
