'Better off moving' - Darwin Nunez sent Liverpool advice with blunt transfer message

Darwin Nunez of Liverpool

Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore has issued his advice to Darwin Nunez amid speculation about his future.

Nunez is nearing the end of his second season with the Reds after completing a deal potentially worth up to £85.5 million from Benfica in 2022. The striker has scored 18 goals with 13 assists in all competitions this season but is without a goal in any of his last eight appearances.

As a result of that form, Nunez has seen his future become the subject of debate. The striker recently lost his place in the starting line-up and subsequently deleted all but one of his Liverpool-related posts on Instagram after the win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, which is believed to be in response to online abuse.

Jurgen Klopp dismissed the idea that Nunez's future at Liverpool is in doubt when he spoke to reporters on Friday. Now Collymore has sent a message to the Uruguayan amid the increased debate around his future.

Collymore has explained why Nunez may need to ask himself a question as he ponders his future at Anfield. The former Reds striker went on to say why Nunez may be left with no choice but to leave Liverpool.

Collymore told Caught Offside: “The only question I’d ask him [Nunez] face to face, and one I answered in my own mind was, 'Do you feel you are good enough to score enough goals and create enough chances for your teammates?'

“If he’s honest, he’ll know whether to stick or twist with the Reds and a new manager, as well as those doubting his ability.”

He added: “Me? I had to completely change my game to adapt to Robbie Fowler who I knew who would outscore me, so I created a lot for him while scoring at a good rate too.

“If Nunez can do that then he has a chance to be a resounding success for several years at Liverpool, but if he doesn’t, then for him and the club he’s better off moving because there’s nowhere to hide at Liverpool and the intensity of the analysis isn’t going anywhere.”
