Euro 2022: Lionesses partied until the early hours of the morning, says England star Lucy Bronze

England players partied to the early hours of Monday morning, dancing to ABBA and Celine Dion, as they celebrated winning Euro 2022.

The Lionesses lifted the trophy at Wembley on Sunday evening after beating Germany in the final to win their first ever major trophy in women’s football.

After that, the players partied in the dressing room before carrying on the celebrations back at their team hotel, The Lensbury, in south west London.

Once there, the players were reunited with their families and they toasted their success before partying until the early hours of Monday morning.

“Everyone was dancing, beers flying everywhere, there’s abba, Céline Dion,” said Ella Toone, describing the dressing room at Wembley.

“The whole bus back to the hotel there was partying. Everyone was everywhere on tables, chairs, down the alleyways.

“We had pizza post-match, they treated us with canapés [at The Lensbury]. I didn’t have any. I had a bit of pizza and just Heineken beer.

“Paparazzi were welcoming us as we got off the bus. As soon as we went into the hotel all our family and friends were there. All my mates were there. It was just mad.

“There were balloons, a big cake, dance floor, DJ, band, honestly everything. Everyone was on the dance floor. The whole dance floor you couldn’t see it, it was so slippy everywhere.

“Celine Dion, a bit of Abba and Dreams by Gabrielle [were the tracks of the night].”

Several of the England players arrived at Monday’s celebration in Trafalgar Square donning sunglasses and defender Lucy Bronze admitted the party went well into the early hours of the morning.

“The last message I sent on my phone was at four o’clock in the morning. It didn’t make much sense,” she said.

“And then we all had to get up at half past eight to have a meeting and then come here.

“I think there was a lot of tears [last night], there was a lot of heart to hearts. I think everybody’s mum and dad, and brothers and cousins, spoke to every single player in the team.

“It was like everyone else’s family wanted to thank everyone else on the team for making their daughter or sister’s dream come true. It was amazing.

“It was a brilliant night and I have just as many memories from the night as I do from the game probably.

“I am not going to lie, my nephew did very well! He kept up with everybody, he got on the dance floor a little bit until two in the morning - and then that was his two-year-old party done!

“He thought he had a medal on as he had a lanyard on with a picture of his aunty Lucy on! He told everyone that was his medal, which is pretty nice.

“I think Sarina [Wiegman] was finding it hard to keep up with the English ways. She had a few comments this morning!

“I tried to give her a beer before she started the meeting [this morning], and she was like: ‘Please don’t, Lucy’.

“We have been winding her up, but it’s something she’ll have to get used to now she’s an honorary English woman.

“She’ll have to get practicing [drinking beer]. Hopefully we can have more nights like that. So she’s going to need it!”
