Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Big Sam ‘to return to Sunderland’, Arsenal ‘make £31m Niang bid’

There are few things more undignifying than ruining a perfect exit. Like when you storm triumphantly out of an argument and then have to return five minutes later because you forgot your coat. Or if after telling Captain Scott, “I am just going outside and may be some time”, Captain Oates had popped back to ask for directions.

But dignity is a luxury for most of us. And despite looking like the coolest cat in down when he saved Sunderland from relegation and then rode off into the sunset to take his dream job, Sam Allardyce waved goodbye to his when he uttered the immortal words, “Prince Harry’s a very naughty boy, he shows his bottom.”

So, perfect exit or not, Big Sam is ready to make a sheepish return to Sunderland, and the Sun reports that he is banking on the Chinese to help him.

It’s always the Chinese these days, isn’t it? The Far East consortium that is bidding to buy the Black Cats apparently want to eject David Moyes and replace him with his predecessor.

They are willing to “break to bank” to get the deposed England manager, evidently having heard that he won’t get out of bed for less than £400,000.

Moyes, meanwhile, has received a vote of confidence from Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain. Eek. (SAFC.com)

Anyone who is familiar with the work of AC Milan striker M'Baye Niang will not be surprised to learn that Arsenal are set to make a £31m bid for him, according to the Express.

The 21-year-old has been getting linked with Premier League clubs for most of his young life, including Leicester, Everton and West Ham to name a few, and that was before he had even shown any knack for scoring goals. But having netted three times in seven Serie A matches this season, his price tag has predictably grown.

Roma could do Manchester City a massive favour by buying literally all of the full-backs they are trying to sell. The Sun claims the Italians are interested in signing Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and Pablo Zabaleta. They are presumably planning to experiment with some kind of new-fangled formation with loads of full-backs in it.

Elsewhere, Arsene Wenger has denied that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to leave Arsenal (Standard), Newcastle could re-sign Hungarian defender Tamas Kadar (Newcastle Chronicle) and Manchester United’s bid to sign highly rated Uruguyan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been indirectly thwarted by Carlos Tevez and the teenager is now set to sign for Juventus (Mail).
