Brazilian football legend Ronaldo is reportedly in intensive care in an Ibiza after coming down with pneumonia.

The 41-year-old former Real Madrid striker was rushed to Can Misses Hospital on Friday and was said to have been admitted to their intensive care unit before making good progress with his recovery over the weekend.

A report on the island in local newspaper Diario de Ibiza says Ronaldo requested to be transferred to a private hospital called Clinica Nuestra Senora del Rosario later that night.

Staff at Can Misses Hospital refused to give out any information due to data protection reasons and the private establishment now treating Ronaldo are yet to comment.

However, the former Galactico took to Twitter to allay his fans’ fears over his health and has announced that he expects to be allowed to return home tomorrow.

Ronaldo, who starred throughout Brazil’s World Cup win in 2002, owns a house in Ibiza and is understood to have arrived on the island for a holiday a few days ago.

He contracted dengue fever in January 2012 and has struggled with weight issues after hanging up his boots due to a thyroid problem.

Ronaldo officially retired from football in 2011 after banging in the goals for top teams such as Barcelona, Inter Milan and Madrid.

His final record shows 414 goals with an impressive 62 strikes in less than 100 appearances for the Brazilian national team.

The World Cup triumph of 2002 was the pinnacle of his career and he holds a joint record of 12 goals in the competition with compatriot Pele.
