Rotherham United and Ipswich Town fans paid the perfect tribute to Barry Chuckle at the New York Stadium.

Chuckle, a lifelong Rotherham supporter, passed away last week at the age of 73 following a battle with cancer.

He named an honorary vice president of the Millers in 2007 and the club was featured in his children’s comedy TV show, Chucklevision, which also starred his brother Paul.

Paul was in attendance for the Ipswich match on Saturday afternoon to witness a touching tribute from all four corners of the ground and a minute’s applause before kick-off.

When the clock ticked to the 73rd minute both sets of supporters joined in to recreate the double act’s famous ‘to me, to you’ catchphrase.

Paul rose to his feet from his seat in the stands to acknowledge the gesture and gave the crowd a wave to thank them for their support.

Rotherham even managed to snatch a winning goal in the very last minute through Michael Smith to secure all three points as the club dedicated the win to Barry’s memory.

His funeral is due to be held at the football club next week and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects from outside the ground on Friday.

A family statement read: “As a family we would welcome fans to celebrate his life and pay their respects with us, outside of the New York stadium.

“There is an event for invited family and close friends which respectfully is private and by invite only”.

“We are overwhelmed with the love and support we have received over the last few days, and thank everyone concerned!”
