Ryder Cup 2021 LIVE: Latest scores and updates from USA vs Europe singles matches

The United States, led by a new generation, reclaimed the Ryder Cup on Sunday, reaching the 14.5 points required to beat holders Europe and heralding what could be an era of domination by the Americans at the biennial competition.

Having romped to a commanding 11-5 advantage after the foursome and fourball sessions, the Americans entered the singles needing just 3.5 points to get to the target needed to hoist the little gold trophy.

Collin Morikawa ended European hopes when he birdied the 17th to go 1Up in his match with Viktor Hovland, guaranteeing the US a deciding half-point.

The 24-year-old Ryder Cup rookie would make it official a few minutes later with a par on 18 to end the match in a tie, sending a thundering chant of “USA, USA” rumbling across Whistling Straits.

“To clinch this and bring it back on home soil feels so good,” said Morikawa, one of six rookies on the 12-man US team. “The guys pulled through; we didn’t let up.” It was just the second time in six competitions and third in 10 that the U.S. had claimed golf’s most coveted team title. Ryder Cup 2021: This is my major, says Stricker

23:18 , Tom Kershaw

“These guys came with a mission and they did it.

“You are trying to make me cry, aren’t you... this is very special, growing up a couple of hours from here, to be with these guys. Come on, you guys show a little emotion too!

“This is a new era right here, they are young, motivated, they came here determined to win. We put them in their groupings, communicated with them, there were no ra-ra speeches - am I going to give them a ra-ra speech? They are the best in the world.

“I have never won a major, but this is my major right here.”

Ryder Cup 2021: Stricker speaks at trophy presentation

23:18 , Tom Kershaw

“I knew from the start a couple of weeks ago when they all showed up here, apart from Brooks who was hurt, all the vice-captains showed up and we got involved early with each other, we learned the course. They came in very prepared.

“This is the greatest team of all time, you guys are unbelievable.”

Ryder Cup 2021: Daniel Berger 1UP defeat Matt Fitzpatrick

23:14 , Tom Kershaw

Berger’s victory meant it was a record-breaking margin of victory for the US. They have been utterly imperious and will lift the trophy shortly.

Ryder Cup 2021: Daniel Berger vs Matt Fitzpatrick A/S

22:57 , Tom Kershaw

Fitzpatrick finds the water at 18 and that all but hands Berger the full point. The Englishman’s Ryder Cup duck is set to go on.

Ryder Cup 2021: Jordan Spieth tied Tommy Fleetwood

22:53 , Tom Kershaw

Spieth and Fleetwood both find the green at 18. A birdie should be good enough to win but neither player can make it. Their par putts are almost identical and the markers are picked up sportingly and the point is halved.

Ryder Cup 2021: Harris English defeated by Lee Westwood 1UP

22:45 , Tom Kershaw

English makes a costly error at the 18th, finding the water at the front of the green. And that hands Westwood victory. That ends his run of defeats at the Ryder Cup and, if it is to be his last playing appearance, ahead of the captaincy in 2023, it’s a deserved finale for one of the stalwarts of the European team.

Ryder Cup 2021: USA wanted it more, says Johnson

22:40 , Tom Kershaw

“The Ryder Cup is a special event, it’s a lot of fun,” Dustin Johnson said after completing his victory over Paul Casey.

“Starting the week if you’d have told me I was going to go 5-0-0 I probably would’ve said you were crazy - I didn’t think I was even going to play five matches.

“It was a great week, the team played amazingly, all of us came together and we wanted to win.

“I think we just wanted it a bit more.

“It’s my first team were I was the oldest, so it’s a little different dynamic. We got along great and we all have one thing in common - that we don’t like to lose. And that showed out on the course.”

Ryder Cup 2021: Daniel Berger vs Matt Fitzpatrick A/S

22:39 , Tom Kershaw

Fitzpatrick with a terrible error at 16, missing a putt that was little more than 3ft. Berger makes no mistake from the same distance and the Englishman has squandered his lead. They’re all square headed to the 17th.

Ryder Cup 2021: Jordan Spieth vs Tommy Fleetwood A/S

22:37 , Tom Kershaw

Fleetwood capitalises on a terrible drive by Spieth at the 16th to haul the match back to all square. He then follows it up with a fantastic tee-shot at the par-3 17th and the Englishman could yet secure a full point.

Ryder Cup 2021: Jordan Spieth 1UP vs Tommy Fleetwood

22:17 , Tom Kershaw

Spieth birdies the 15th to take the ascendancy over Fleetwood with just three holes remaining.

Ryder Cup 2021: Brooks Koepka 2&1 defeat Bernd Wiesberger

22:08 , Tom Kershaw

Koepka almost gets a hole-in-one at 17! What a shot. That birdie, though, is still enough to secure victory over Wiesberger, who put up a valiant fight.

Ryder Cup 2021: Justin Thomas 4&3 defeat Tyrrell Hatton

22:06 , Tom Kershaw

A fantastic chip by Thomas at the 15th seals his victory, too. He was far too strong for Hatton all day.

Ryder Cup 2021: Dustin Johnson 1UP defeat Paul Casey

22:06 , Tom Kershaw

Paul Casey has a chance to spoil Dustin Johnson’s party and halve the match. His putt lips out, though, and that means the American has gone 5-0. A tremendous performance by the two-time major champion.

USA regain the Ryder Cup

21:54 , Tom Kershaw

Morikawa leaks his drive down the right and cannot make par. It means his match with Hovland is halved, but that doesn’t matter to the final result. The US have the half-point they needed.

Ryder Cup 2021: Tony Finau vs Ian Poulter 3UP

21:49 , Tom Kershaw

Poulter goes 3UP with three to play against Tony Finau.

Ryder Cup 2021: Dustin Johnson 1UP vs Paul Casey

21:48 , Tom Kershaw

Johnson has a birdie putt to win the Ryder Cup at the 17th and he has a good read of the line from Casey’s. It stays high of the hole, though, and it’ll surely be Morikawa now who secures the winning point.

Ryder Cup 2021: Collin Morikawa 1UP vs Viktor Hovland

21:37 , Tom Kershaw

Morikawa holes his birdie putt to guarantee the US of the half-point they need for victory. However, the score will not be officially confirmed until they finish up on the 18th.

Ryder Cup 2021: Collin Morikawa vs Viktor Hovland A/S

21:32 , Tom Kershaw

A sensational tee-shot by Morikawa at the 17th finished just a few feet from the hole. That’s a tap-in birdie and Hovland is miles back on the green. Unless he can hole that, the Open champion will be guaranteed the half point that will seal the US’s victory.

Ryder Cup 2021: Dustin Johnson 2UP vs Paul Casey

21:26 , Tom Kershaw

Johnson birdies the 15th to go two up with three to play against Casey. The oldest player in the US team at 37, he is set to go 5-0 for the week and it would be fitting if he’s the one to secure the winning point.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau 3&2 defeat Sergio Garcia

21:20 , Tom Kershaw

Garcia’s approach to the par-5 16th drags left and finds a horrible lie in the bunker. He does well to get himself onto the green but, with DeChambeau in for par, the Spaniard needs to hole a huge birdie putt to extend the match. It pulls up short and the US are now just half a point away.

Ryder Cup 2021: Harris English vs Lee Westwood A/S

21:14 , Tom Kershaw

Westwood birdies the 11th to move back to A/S as he attempts to break a run of six consecutive Ryder Cup defeats.

Ryder Cup 2021: Brooks Koepka 1UP vs Bernd Wiesberger

21:08 , Tom Kershaw

Koepka rolls in a huge putt to retake the lead against Wiesberger. Further back, Poulter goes 3UP against Finau and, despite a torrid Friday and Saturday, his formidable record in the singles looks set to continue.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele defeated by Rory McIlroy 3&2

20:58 , Tom Kershaw

Here is McIlroy’s emotional interview after his victory over Xander Schauffele.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay 4&2 defeat Shane Lowry

20:50 , Tom Kershaw

The landslide is truly beginning now. Cantlay cleans up on the 16th green to condemn Lowry to defeat. The Tour champion has been brilliant this week.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 4&3 defeat Jon Rahm

20:49 , Tom Kershaw

The first of what is sure to be many US points go up on the board as Scheffler rolls in his putt on the 15th.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele defeated by Rory McIlroy 3&2

20:47 , Tom Kershaw

Rory McIlroy: “I’ve never cried or got emotional over what I’ve done as an individual. I couldn’t give a s***.”

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele defeated by Rory McIlroy 3&2

20:42 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy breaks down in tears during his post-round interview and stresses how much he’s loved being part of the European team.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele defeated by Rory McIlroy 3&2

20:38 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy wraps up victory over Schauffele. Sadly, it might be Europe’s only one. Nevertheless, it’s a valiant performance by the Northern Irishman after such a wretched performance on Friday and Saturday. A par completes a 3&1 victory at the 16th green.

Ryder Cup 2021: Dustin Johnson 2UP vs Paul Casey

20:25 , Tom Kershaw

Johnson birdies the 10th to go 2UP on Casey. He’s on track to become just the third player in history to go 5-0 at a Ryder Cup.

Ryder Cup 2021: Justin Thomas 3UP vs Tyrrell Hatton

20:23 , Tom Kershaw

Thomas has two putts to win the 8th hole but he only needs one. He drains a huge putt from the fringe and he’s now 3UP on Hatton, who’s struggling badly.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau 2UP vs Sergio Garcia

20:21 , Tom Kershaw

DeChambeau misjudges his tee-shot at the 12th and the ball sails over the back of the green. The lie is horrendous and he duffs the chip short of the green. He needs to hole out for par and, while it’s an excellent shot, the ball doesn’t fall. The hole is conceded and the American’s lead is cut down to two.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 3UP

20:09 , Tom Kershaw

The end might be near, but McIlroy is at least closing in on a point. He holes a huge putt at the 14th to put the pressure on Schauffele, who now has around 10ft just to half. The American can’t make it and McIlroy is three up with four to play.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 4UP vs Jon Rahm

19:58 , Tom Kershaw

Scheffler is playing brilliantly and takes full advantage of Rahm’s mistake at the 11th. He’s back to four.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 3UP vs Jon Rahm

19:48 , Tom Kershaw

Rahm has halted Scheffler’s momentum but the putts just won’t fall for the Spaniard. His drive at the 10th was huge and left a tricky chip. It’s the sort of pressure putt he’s made all week but not today. The ball stays on the high side of the hole and he clenches his putter in frustration.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau 3UP vs Sergio Garcia

19:43 , Tom Kershaw

Garcia makes a complete mess of the ninth, hooking his drive into the gallery. That gives DeChambeau free run at it after a booming drive. He leaves himself a testing putt of around 10ft for the win and it rolls into the centre of the hole. He’s 3UP now and raises his fists to the crowd.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 3UP

19:36 , Tom Kershaw

Schauffele has not been at his best and has a terrible lie at the 11th in the bunker. There’s a patch of grass just behind his ball, meaning he can’t get the club under it. He has to come out sideways instead and can’t get up and down. Par is good enough for McIlroy to stretch his lead to three.

Ryder Cup 2021: Dustin Johnson 1UP vs Paul Casey

19:29 , Tom Kershaw

Johnson birdies the 6th to break the deadlock with Casey. The US are now leading in seven of the twelve matches...

Ryder Cup 2021: Collin Morikawa 2UP vs Viktor Hovland

19:26 , Tom Kershaw

After winning the first two holes, Hovland has now lost the past four in succession and red is starting to sweep the scoreboard now.

Ryder Cup 2021: Daniel Berger vs Matt Fitzpatrick 1UP

19:21 , Tom Kershaw

Our final match is underway and Matt Fitzpatrick immediately takes the lead with a birdie. It may prove immaterial in the result, but the Englishman will be desperate to break his Ryder Cup duck.

Ryder Cup 2021: Brooks Koepka vs Bernd Wiesberger 1UP

19:10 , Tom Kershaw

There’s a wry smile for Wiesberger at the fourth, who imitates DeChambeau’s antics with the putter yesterday after Koepka refuses to concede the putt. This is the Sunday singles though and the Austrian can’t expect any freebies. Nevertheless, he pops it in to go 1UP.

Ryder Cup 2021: Harris English vs Lee Westwood 1UP

18:54 , Tom Kershaw

Westwood has lost his last six Ryder Cup matches... but makes a good start here, with a birdie at the first to win the hole.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau 1UP vs Sergio Garcia

18:49 , Tom Kershaw

DeChambeau finds the long stuff at the par 5 5th, leaving himself a tough shot into the green, and his ball tumbles into the water. He can’t get up and down for par and that’s a gift for Garcia.

Ryder Cup 2021: Justin Thomas 1UP vs Tyrrell Hatton

18:45 , Tom Kershaw

Thomas walks in a long birdie putt to win the first. He was very pumped up yesterday and Hatton is in for a very difficult test, having struggled with his ball-striking.

Ryder Cup 2021: Tony Finau vs Ian Poulter 1UP

18:44 , Tom Kershaw

Poulter has been a spectre of his usual self this week but starts with aplomb at the first. A birdie is followed by a fist pump and he has the lead over Finau.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 1UP

18:38 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy can only make a bogey at the 7th. Schauffele has little more than 3ft for the win and that game looks far tighter now.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay 3UP vs Shane Lowry

18:37 , Tom Kershaw

Cantlay and Lowry both have short birdie putts at the 6th. It’s the Irishman to go first but he misses. Cantlay rarely errs from this range and it proves no different on this occasion. He’s 3UP now.

Ryder Cp 2021: Scottie Scheffler 3UP vs Jon Rahm

18:32 , Tom Kershaw

Scheffler finds the water at the fifth. That was a needless error with Rahm unable to reach the green in two after an errant drive. The American can’t get up and down after taking a drop and concedes the hole. Rahm claws one back.

Ryder Cup 2021: Brooks Koepka vs Bernd Wiesberger 1UP

18:25 , Tom Kershaw

Koepka’s tee-shot was pushed nastily at the first and settles in a bush. He has to take a penalty drop and can only get down in five. Wiesberger was on the green in two and has two putts for the win. No mistake.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay 2UP vs Shane Lowry

18:23 , Tom Kershaw

Superb by Cantlay, whose pitch settles just a couple of inches from the flag at the 5th. Lowry found the water and the Tour champion has surged into a lead after losing the first.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau 1UP vs Sergio Garcia

18:21 , Tom Kershaw

DeChambeau went two up against Garcia on the 2nd after the Spaniard found a dreadfully difficult bunker short of the green and failed to make par. He responds immediately, though, with a fine birdie at the 3rd.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 4UP vs Jon Rahm

18:14 , Tom Kershaw

Rahm goes four down through four! Few would have predicted this. Scheffler has been utterly supreme and his approach into the fourth is immaculate and results in a gimme birdie. Rahm’s putt to half looks good but just slips past.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 2UP

18:11 , Tom Kershaw

A huge save for McIlroy at the fifth. After finding the water, he’s able to find the green and leaves himself at least a hope of saving par. Schauffele has a good look at birdie but cannot take it. There’s still work to do for McIlroy, but he rises to it, rolls in the putt, and there’s a big fist pump. That was important.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 2UP

18:04 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy finds the rough with his drive at the par-5 5th. It’s a horrible lie and he’s just trying to dig it out and layup with a wedge. The grass seems to close his clubface, though, and he chunks it into the water down the left. His lead will surely be cut down to one.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 3UP vs Jon Rahm

18:01 , Tom Kershaw

Rahm’s putt races by the hole. Scheffler’s shorter one catches the lower lip. He’s been unstoppable and that’s three wins in three holes for the American against the world No 1.

Ryder Cup 2021: Collin Morikawa vs Viktor Hovland 1UP

17:59 , Tom Kershaw

Trouble for Morikawa at the first as our fifth group gets underway. The Open champion pulled his drive into the bunker and then misses the green with his second. The chip isn’t great, he misses his par putt and then concedes the hole to Hovland, who had endured no such bother. The Norwegian goes one up.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 2UP vs Jon Rahm

17:57 , Tom Kershaw

It’s not quite happening for Rahm so far. The Spaniard three-putts at the par-5 2nd and Scheffler, whose approach was excellent, rolls in a birdie to win the hole. Then, at the par-3 3rd, Scheffler’s tee-shot is absolutely fantastic and leaves a short birdie putt. The American is playing wonderfully.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 2UP

17:54 , Tom Kershaw

Schauffle found the rough with his tee-shot at 4 and a tricky stance causes him to turn over his approach. It finds the bunker to the left of the green and he can’t get up and down. A par is good enough for McIlroy to go two clear.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay vs Shane Lowry A/S

17:50 , Tom Kershaw

Cantlay’s tee-shot at the 3rd is exquisite and leaves around 10ft for birdie. Lowry turns his over too much and it topples down the slope and into the bunker. It’s a very tough up and down from there, but it doesn’t matter anyway. Cantlay, who’s such a brilliant putter, rolls in the birdie to put the match back on even footing.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau 1UP vs Sergio Garcia

17:47 , Tom Kershaw

Stunning from DeChambeau. After that spectacular drive, he judges the putt to absolute perfection and that’s an eagle at the first.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay vs Shane Lowry 1UP

17:44 , Tom Kershaw

Lowry’s three-iron at the par-5 2nd is exceptional but can’t quite get enough purchase on the green and rests up against the collar. That’s far better than Cantlay can muster, though. The Tour champion pushes his fairway metal and leaves himself a horrible chip. He can’t get it in close with the flag perched at the bottom of a slope. A birdie will be good enough for Lowry to win the hole and he duly gets up and down. That’s such a strong aspect of the Irishman’s game. He leads.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau vs Sergio Garcia

17:42 , Tom Kershaw

Awe-striking from DeChambeau. He carries his drive 350 yards straight onto the first green and the gallery goes absolutely wild. That is not an understatement at all. Sensational.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler 1UP vs Jon Rahm

17:39 , Tom Kershaw

Rahm pitches into the first but he gets far too much check on that. He made the same mistakes yesterday, too. Scheffler learns from that, allows his own pitch to release down the slope, and that’s almost a gimme. Rahm has to make his tricky downhill putt and, just like Lowry, it misses on the high side. Scheffler taps in to take the lead.

Ryder Cup 2021: Bryson DeChambeau vs Sergio Garcia

17:36 , Tom Kershaw

Time for one of the headline matches to get underway. It’s Garcia vs DeChambeau, two fiery competitors who come with a guarantee to leave everything out there.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 1UP

17:32 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy has an eagle putt to win the hole and go two up through two, but he pulls it low. Schauffele still has a nervous 6ft putt for his birdie, and he missed an easier one at the first. There’s no mistake this time, though. The hole is halved.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scottie Scheffler vs Jon Rahm

17:30 , Tom Kershaw

Jon Rahm is on the tee. He has been utterly formidable this week, triumphing three times alongside Sergio Garcia and securing a half-point with Tyrrell Hatton. The world No 1 has lived up to his reputation and thrashes a perfect drive down the first. Scheffler came into form late in his match with DeChambeau last night and continues in that vein. His drive is even longer than Rahm’s, and that is no easy feat.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay vs Shane Lowry A/S

17:27 , Tom Kershaw

A fine effort by Lowry, who judges the pace of his downhill putt to perfection. Somehow, it refuses to succumb to gravity, though, and slips past the high side of the hole almost in slow motion. The hole is halved and that’s a good recovery by Cantlay.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay vs Shane Lowry

17:25 , Tom Kershaw

A rare mistake by Cantlay and there are some nerves here for the US early starters. From a perfect position in the fairway, the American blades his pitch and it races through the green and down into the back bunker. The recovery is excellent and he’s in for par. Lowry will have a putt to win the hole, though.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 1UP

17:23 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy hits a lovely high draw at the par-5 2nd that just clings to the fairway. Schauffele’s turns just a little more and catches the rough. It’s the Olympic champion to go first with a 3-wood. It’s a fine shot, just missing the green, and he’ll have a good look at an up and down. McIlroy, with a long iron, is brilliant, though. A high draw arcs in towards the flag and he’ll have less than 20ft for an eagle.

Ryder Cup 2021: Patrick Cantlay vs Shane Lowry

17:17 , Tom Kershaw

The next group are on the tee and it’ll be Lowry, who was absolutely excellent yesterday afternoon, to go first. He blazes a perfect drive straight down the middle and will have just a short pitch into the flag. Those are the Irishman’s speciality. Cantlay’s effort is every bit as good, though.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy 1UP

17:15 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy’s chip leaves a nervy 4ft putt for birdie. It’s a must make because Schauffele is in even closer after a fine lagged putt from the fringe. McIlroy shows no nerves and rattles it into the centre of the hole. Schauffele’s putt seems set to be a routine tap-in.... but he pushes it! A bad mistake from such a brilliant player. Europe have the lead in the first match.

17:12 , Tom Kershaw

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy

17:10 , Tom Kershaw

McIlroy’s driver has been erratic and, often, outright awful since Friday morning. A singles match is a different proposition, though, and he was keen to go out first for Europe today. He lashes a perfect drive straight down the fairway and it almost reaches the green, which is 350 yards away. Schauffele, the Olympic champion who is 3-0 this week, is hardly one to be fazed, though. His drive is even better and settles on the fringe.

Ryder Cup 2021: Xander Schauffele vs Rory McIlroy

17:07 , Tom Kershaw

Here we go! Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele take to the first tee. The atmosphere is raucous in the granstand. They’re convinced of victory. But can Europe mount a charge?

Ryder Cup 2021: Sunday pin positions

16:40 , Tom Kershaw

Whistling Straits has been such a spectacular stage this week, and the pin positions can completely change the outlook of so many holes, bringing the shore and those viciously steep banks into play. Here’s how the flags have been set up for the singles:

Ryder Cup 2021: Harrington hopes for Medinah spirit

16:25 , Tom Kershaw

Padraig Harrington is under no illusions over the daunting task facing his European side.

“Six points is a tough one to make up tomorrow, but I think we were a half-point short of that in the Miracle at Medinah on Sunday, so we’re just going to have to push for that tomorrow,” he said. “There’s no doubt that’s going to be very strong on our minds.”

The United States also pulled off a similar comeback title win in 1999, fighting from 10-6 down on the final day of the contest at Brookline.

“Even reversing it to Brookline. I know that was a four-point gap. These things can be done,” Harrington added. “But again, it is more of an individual game tomorrow and getting them to focus on winning their point.

“I’m sure they know they have a very tall order ahead of them, but it’s still possible. Focus on their individual self and play their game and win that and then just see how it adds up.”

“In search of a miracle after another landslide defeat in the morning session, Europe summoned all their remaining strength on Saturday afternoon at Whistling Straits, but their wearied hopes of retaining the Ryder Cup are in ruins.”

Tom Kershaw provides the rundown from yesterday’s action in the Ryder Cup, ahead of today’s singles matches. It will require an almighty effort, and no small measure of fortune, for Europe to turn this one around.

Ryder Cup 2021: USA take 11-5 lead over Europe into Sunday singles

Tony Finau won’t show mercy to Team Europe at Ryder Cup

15:15 , Karl Matchett

Tony Finau warned Europe’s players they will be shown no mercy as the United States targeted a comprehensive Ryder Cup victory at Whistling Straits.

Steve Stricker’s side took an 11-5 lead into Sunday’s 12 singles matches and required just three and a half points to win the biennial contest for only the second time since 2008.

But Finau revealed he and his team-mates had no intention of settling for simply securing the win after previous US sides were beaten by record nine-point margins in 2004 and 2006.

“I don’t think it gets talked about enough in the Ryder Cup (but) sometimes your job, when you have a healthy lead like this, (is to) just wear out some of the great players,” said Finau, who was drawn to face European talisman Ian Poulter in the singles.

USA all but condemn Europe to defeat with dominant foursomes display

The final hour of a vital third session at Whistling Straits all but ended in a death sentence for Europe’s defence of the Ryder Cup and even those clinging to the most delirious optimism can harbour little hope of a comeback.

DeChambeau labelled ‘classless’ for complaints over putt not being conceded

12:15 , Dylan Terry

Bryson DeChambeau was branded “classless” after appearing to complain about a European decision not to concede a putt early in his Ryder Cup fourballs match on Saturday.

The American playing alongside Scottie Scheffler, was left with a short putt to halve the opening hole after Viktor Hovland missed a chance to give himself and Tommy Fleetwood an early lead.

DeChambeau duly rolled the ball into the hole but did not seem happy that he had been made to do so as he laid his putter on ground after taking his shot.

Ryder Cup 2021: USA take 11-5 lead over Europe into Sunday singles

01:21 , Tom Kershaw

That brings an end to our live coverage on what was a memorable but ultimately ruinous day for Europe’s Ryder Cup defence. Steve Stricker’s side will require just three and a half points to complete a dominant victory in the Sunday singles and even Padraig Harrington will surely accept there is now way back for his team now.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scheffler & DeChambeau 3&1 defeat Fleetwood & Hovland

Sunday 26 September 2021 00:20 , Tom Kershaw

DeChambeau hits a brilliant tee-shot at the 17th, finishing just 10ft from the hole. He’s been wayward all day, but that was a laser from well over 200 yards. Fleetwood’s effort is no good, nose-diving into the rough. Hovland’s is better, but his putter fails him again. It was immaterial anyway. Only needing a half to win the match, DeChambeau had already confirmed the point that will, almost certainly, put this Ryder Cup out of Europe’s reach.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scheffler & DeChambeau 2UP vs Fleetwood & Hovland

Hovland has a birdie putt at the 16th but it refuses to drop. The Norwegian has been mightily impressive but has come unstuck on the green a few times now. Scheffler has found his touch, though, and sinks his putt to win the hole. That gives the US a dormie lead heading to the 17th. They’ve won the last three holes in succession and turned this match around. Europe have fought bravely, but it doesn’t look like it will be enough.

Ryder Cup 2021: Johnson & Morikawa 4&3 defeat McIlroy vs Poulter

Sunday 26 September 2021 00:06 , Tom Kershaw

Morikawa birdies the 15th and McIlroy has no response. That result has been inevitable for a long time now. Mcllroy and Poulter simply haven’t produced when it matters. That should be no disservice to such a formidable American pairing, though. They’ve been brilliant throughout.

Ryder Cup 2021: Finau & English defeated by Lowry & Hatton 1UP

Sunday 26 September 2021 00:04 , Tom Kershaw

English gets down in two. Lowry has a 10ft putt to win the match and take the full point. The atmosphere is electric and the pressure is huge. He starts it outside the right of the hole, it slows down and takes the slope with utter certainty. In it goes! Absolutely outstanding from the Irishman.

There’s a lot of pressure on the Europeans on 18 now. Lowry can only lay up from the bunker and, while his third is excellent, it’s still a very trick par putt. Hatton is in the greenside bunker, it’s tricky, and his shot gets caught in the collar. English found the fringe with a great approach and will have a putt to win the hole and tie the match.

Ryder Cup 2021: Scheffler & DeChambeau 1UP vs Fleetwood & Hovland

Saturday 25 September 2021 23:52 , Tom Kershaw

A big moment in the group behind as Scheffler, who hasn’t played particularly well this afternoon, judges an arcing putt on the 15th green to utter perfection. The ball catches the lip almost in slow motion and his playing partner, DeChambeau, approves of that. There’s chest bumps, first bumps, and a whole lot of celebrating.

Ryder Cup 2021: Koepka & Spieth vs Rahm & Garcia 2UP

Saturday 25 September 2021 23:51 , Tom Kershaw

Jon Rahm! Take a bow. He has proven time and time again why he’s the number one player in the world over the last two days but this is really special, a 29ft putt that drills into the centre of the hole. What a time to make it, too. Spieth is suddenly under huge pressure to make birdie and he can’t rise to it. Europe take a dormie two lead to the 17th tee.
