Sean Dyche speaks out on Everton transfer plans amid takeover uncertainty

Everton manager Sean Dyche believes he and his staff have done their part in convincing players to join the club this summer, as speculation regarding a potential takeover continues to rumble on.

While the Blues were able to secure Premier League safety despite a cumulative eight-point deduction for two breaches of Profit and Sustainability Rules, it is anticipated the club will need to cash in on some key assets to balance the books this summer.

That also means it's unlikely the club will spend massive amounts when the transfer market opens, giving Dyche and director of football Kevin Thelwell a challenging brief. Everton also have a number of players out of contract in the coming weeks, including club captain Seamus Coleman and star midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

However, when the amount of players who could potentially leave the club were listed to Dyche in his press conference on Thursday, the Blues boss suggested the team had put themselves in a decent position to convince players to extend their stay or sign up.

"That bit is easy - and great fun it is too," joked Dyche when asked about the work that needs to be done in terms of recruitment.

"We're having to manage different situations as best we can. Kevin (Thelwell) and his staff too - in-house, contractually as we see fit. Then that would go to the interim board and the owner, who is in ownership now, to sign off on certain situations because the club has to keep moving forward of course.

"It's a bit more tricky on the transfer side, as regards to what money gets generated as normal in a situation in any summer period. And trying to imagine all of these difficult scenarios. It's difficult for Kev and his team, me and my staff to navigate a way through and find out who we are keeping, for sure.

"It is a two-way thing, don't forget. It's not just us wanting players. It's them (players) and their advisors will look back at the club and say 'where is the club at?'

"Well the first big hurdle this season with points taken off us and the like was to make sure we secured ourselves in the Premier League. So we've done that."

Dyche was also asked for his view on the ongoing confusion around the club's potential takeover by 777 Partners.

As reported by the ECHO, the deal appears on the brink of collapse due to concerns around the American company and their ability to fund any successful bid. Both the Everton Fan Advisory Board and the Everton Shareholders' Association both released statements this week condemning 777, owner Farhad Moshiri and the Premier League for the delay in a verdict on the potential takeover.

"Nothing more than I've said all along," said Dyche when asked what the latest on a deal was from his perspective. "Until I'm told differently, nothing changes from my point of view."

"I wouldn't comment on their view (the FAB and the EFCSA). I can only imagine. At my last club there was a takeover and it took a long time. There's a lot going on at this club. It's not just simple as the club's up and running and you buy it.

"You've got a new ground getting built, the complexities of the finances here, staying in the division - which has now been achieved. So I don't know if all of those points are necessary, but I would imagine there's a lot of detail that goes in to buying this club."
