Tiger Woods: Gambler wins £1m on Masters bet, William Hill's biggest ever golf payout

One American gambler who bet £65,000 on Tiger Woods to win the Masters collected William Hill’s largest ever golf payout Sunday after the American secured an famous success.

Placed at odds of 14-1, the unidentified punter was the recipient of just under £1 million following Woods’ first major triumph since 2008.

“It’s great to see Tiger back," said Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading at the U.S. office of William Hill. "It’s a painful day for William Hill — our biggest golf loss ever — but a great day for golf."

Before the Augusta tournament had begun, Bogdanovich revealed the wager was so large he had to clear it with his bosses.

“When we were approached with this bet, it was above my pay grade, so I had to go to my boss,” he told Action Network.

“Because we have such a large Masters pool this year, we decided to take it.”

Ominously, Bogdanovich also remarked: “If Tiger wins we will obviously get toasted.”

Woods’ fifth Masters win was his first at the iconic Georgia course since 2005.

His 15th major win has seen Woods moved up to sixth in the world rankings having been ranked outside the top 600 as recently as 2017.
