SWINDON Town Women have announced James Lally will take over as manager following Jamie Lloyd-Davies' decision to step back at the end of the season.

Former development team manager Lally will be joined by Keehlan Panayiotou (coach), David Tomlinson (goalkeeping coach), Imogen Webb (sports therapist), and Mike Peacock (head of performance) for next season's FA Women’s National League South West Division One campaign.

Lally joined Town Women at the start of the 2019-20 season and led the development side to a second-place finish in the South West Women’s Regional League while also overseeing the progression of the club's young players, with nine players making their first-team debuts across the season.

Speaking to the club's media team after the news was announced, Lally said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to the role of first-team manager ahead of the upcoming season.

“I’d like to thank the club for giving me this opportunity as well as every player that has played for me in the development squad, it is their hard work that has made this possible.”

Lally went on to show his appreciation for outgoing manager, Lloyd-Davies. He said: “Under Jamie’s leadership over the past three seasons, the club has developed significantly on and off the field.

"Along with the support of my staff we will be working tirelessly to continue developing the first team and the club, ensuring that we are competitive this coming season and beyond.”

Town are expected to be joined by a host of new club's next season following the FA's restructure in women's football.

Chairman Martin Wheeler hopes Lally can help the team be successful as well as continuing his track record of bringing through promising talent.

Wheeler said: “We are delighted to be able to announce James as our new first-team manager, and we are fully aware of the skills and expertise that he will bring to the role.

“As soon as we started the process of looking for a new manager we quickly identified James as the candidate that we wanted to lead the first team.

"His enthusiasm to continue to grow the club not only on the pitch but off it shone throughout our conversations.

“His track record in developing players while also being fully integrated into the club will support the transition into his new role.”
