May might be miserable but June's going to be HOT

After unwelcome news that we could be facing the coldest May for 100 years, and that a whole month's worth of rain could fall in three days this week, we're happy to report that weather experts are predicting a scorching June.
This summer from June to August is reportedly set to be a perfect time to take a staycation - thanks to a weather pattern called the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), which is seeing a shift in its four-year negative phase that will allow warm air to push through.
Dr Todd Crawford of Weather Services International told theExpress: "As we head into the summer period, we expect a distinctly different pattern to what we have observed over the last four years.
"Since the factor that drove the negative NAO for the last four years are no longer in place, we expect a much warmer, drier summer in the UK this year, more similar to the summers observed during the 2002 to 2006 period."
Back in 2006, Britain enjoyed its hottest summer for 500 years, with the mercury hitting 101.3F (38.5C).
Jim Dale from the British Weather Services also said the chances of a hot summer are high, telling Aol Travel: "Chances are heightened considerably by a poor spring (which is what we are enduring now), as well as the return to a positive North Atlantic Oscillation pattern, which means far more high pressure than low."
But he did say he didn't want to get "too carried away with the detail" because for now "it's guesswork", adding: "But, we almost certainly will see heatwave spells at times."
Jim says "patience is required", and he's not wrong; we've got some miserable outlooks to get through before we can enjoy the "barbecue summer".
Weather forecasters have predicted an inch of rain will fall every day until Thursday.
Met Office spokeswoman Helen Chivers told Aol Travel: "The amounts of rain will vary from one part of the UK to another over the next few days.
"However we are expecting in excess of 50mm of rain across parts of southern England during the course of this week.
"This is approaching the average rainfall for the month, which is 54mm for the southern half of England."
