Andrew Garfield Is Looking Pretty Ripped These Days

While other Emmy nominees are campaigning for a win, Andrew Garfield—up for Best Actor for his performance in Under the Banner of Heaven—is busy sunning himself in Bali... and working out. In a handful of new shirtless vacation photos that have emerged online, Garfield is rocking a lean physique.

And the actor's stans—because if an actor's body of work encompasses Broadway and Marvel, you'd best believe they've got stans—are reacting with what can only be described as an exponential amount of thirst. (Not bad for someone who says he was once told by a casting director that he "wasn't handsome enough" to be a leading man at the beginning of his career.)

But in addition to appreciating how great Garfield is looking, the internet has also begun to speculate what might have prompted him to get into such good shape. And the most obvious (and most hoped-for) answer is that he could be training for another Amazing Spider-Man movie.

Garfield reprised the role of Peter Parker in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside the other two actors to have played the superhero on the big screen: Tobey Maguire from Sam Raimi's early 2000s trilogy, and the MCU's current canonical Spidey, Tom Holland. That film ended with each of the Peters Parker returning to their own respective corners of the multiverse, but that isn't to say that there's no way for Garfield to reappear, either in the MCU or in Sony's separate Spidey-verse.

In fact, as soon as news broke that he was in No Way Home, Garfield stated that he was up for coming back again.

"I mean, yes, definitely open to something if it felt right," he said. "Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, to the greater good and the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens that knows struggle and loss and is deeply empathetic. I would try to borrow Peter Parker’s ethical framework in that, if there was an opportunity to step back in and tell more of that story, I would have to feel very sure and certain in myself."
